Well, I went out 2 days this weekend. Both days I left my knee strap at home, and tried a different approach to my running. I took up a Galloway-style approach.. I'd run .5 or .6 miles, then walk a block or so. Repeat. That *seemed* to keep the ITBS at a manageable level. I also stuck to flat routes, and I limited my runs to 2.25 & 2.5 miles. (The running part was those numbers, I don't count the walking).
The other thing I did was to pick up my pace a bit.. (mixing in walking allows me to run fast for a short period of time.. lol). I think that causes me to run more on front part of my foot, and it doesn't hurt the ITB as much. I know running faster leads to more injuries, so I'm hesitant to keep with this aspect of my weekend runs.
Today I feel pretty good, and I'm happy about that. I think I'll just go for a walk today and not try to push it to 3 days in a row.
Props to joyRuN, who correctly identified my avatar's origin. It's from Doctor Who.. It's a 'Dalek'. Wikipedia has a lengthy article on them here, because what else do sci-fi people have to do, but write detailed articles on Wikipedia? The long and the short of it is, it's an "evil alien race".
I really didn't know what to choose for an avatar, so that was it. I'd put pics up, but then people from work might stumble across this, put 2 and 2 together, and that just wouldn't be good.
That's all for now... I need to find something for tomorrow's alky Tuesday entry..
Keep on rockin'!

Blogaversary!!
Welp, it's been one year since I started this little blog. (Well, it's really tomorrow, but I don't really blog too much on the weekends) This is #260 of my posts over the past year. Wow.. really? That means I have a rate of 5 posts a week? Wow. As XC2 said, employee of the month. Well, really, I guess employee of the year.
Well, like most of you bloggers, I started a blog saying "who would read my writings?". However, over time, I've slowly built up a little "fan base". I find it really incredible, and I'd like to thank all of you who stop by here. I've made some good friends doing this, and I hope that continues on. The blogosphere is a really great community.
The reason I started blogging was that after I started running a couple of years ago, I went to Google and searched for something incredibly silly like "beginner runner tips" or something along that line. One thing led to another, and then I found a series of running blogs. I wound up lurking on the blogs for pretty much a year before starting my own.
(As it is, I still read a number of blogs that I lurk at.. haven't come around to posting, or don't post regularly).
So.. in honor of all of you, my readers, is there anything you'd like to read on here that you don't? Anything you want to see less of? Stuff you want changed?
On to running.. last night, I got in a humid 2 miles. No Garmin on me.. just wanted to go out. I think I'm not really sold on the whole running with a knee strap. I noticed that I felt my knee cap sliding around a bit (something I'm intimately familiar with, having a scorching case of patello femeral pain a few years back), and I figure that's due to my quad not having it's full control with the strap in the way. I think I'll try my next run without the strap, just to see how it goes. If I'm not better soon, I'm chugging my butt over to the doctor. It's been long enough. I'm tired of this.
I'm looking forward to the weekend.. I don't think we have any plans (I haven't verified this with Mrs. Raul, so I'm 99.99999% sure I'm wrong, and there's probably something really important going on). It was only a 4 day week, which is certainly better than a 5 day one, but I still like to leave work. Something tells me that even if I got down to a 1 day week, I'd still be exuberant at the end of the lone work day.
Thanks again.. keep on rockin'!
(and, an extra one for you, G, keep on rockin'!)

TIaRT: Spring Training Tips
It's TIaRT time, once again. Today's topic is tips for spring training.
I guess I'll be upfront and say, I have no street cred with regards to this subject. This is my second spring of running. Last spring, I was sporadic, at best.
But, as many people do, I will pontificate regardless.
Tip #1 - Don't do too much too fast. It's not like I listen to this tip, though. Exhibit A: cardinal sins post. So do as I say, not as I do (another good quality of someone spouting off).
But, it is important to heed this. You may have been cooped up inside all winter and are ready to bust out, remembering where you were at the end of the fall. If you haven't been working out in the winter, you're probably not where you were months ago.
Tip #2 - Run with someone. It's a lot easier when you have someone out there with you. That person doesn't want to let you down (ideally), and you don't want to let that person down (again, ideally). Plus, you can chat and all that good stuff while grinding out the miles.
Alas, my running buddy is moving away this weekend. Not that she and I have been running a lot together lately for various reasons, but it still stinks. I did like running with her, and I like running with others. Blah. So, there's the second tip I'm going to be disregarding.
Tip #3 - Have fun.
(I can do that one at least.)
So, aside from TIaRT.. last night, I went out without my Garmin. I went and chugged up a monster hill. It was sprinkling. The fresh smell of rain. A breeze in the air.
And, that's as poetic as I can get.
It was awesome, though. 4 miles down, I felt great. I almost wished it was raining more. And to think, I used to not run in the rain.
Oh, and I have no idea about the 'Friend Connect' thing. I saw a bunch of people post that, so I figured I'd be a follower. I thought it was supposed to include the 'following' crew, but it obviously doesn't. No idea how it works, how it's different or anything like that.
Keep on rockin' everyone!

Blog maintenance
Earlier this week I was discussing FeedBurner. Turns out, they're moving to Google. So, I went and did that whole moving thing.
Previously subscribed folks shouldn't see a change, but you know how that is. The new feed is at http://feeds2.feedburner.com/Raulgonemobile.
Once I get this through my old subscription, I'll go and update this saying that it worked.. :)
Update: It worked.

Blog notes and long run notes
Right now, my blog comes up as #1 in a Google search for 'what is an experimental fusion vehicle'. Really. I can't make this stuff up.
So, I'm subscribed to my 'FeedBurner' feed to myself, just to make sure everything comes through OK and whatnot. I see that it's been a bit sluggish lately.. Sluggish, as in, I got 4 days of postings all at once..
I originally signed up for FeedBurner just to see how many people subscribe (narcissist?), but the Google Webmaster Tools seem to give you that data. How many of you use FeedBurner? Should I just ditch it? What are your thoughts?
Anyway. Friday was to be a 3 miler. I did one on the track, and was like this.. "ow ow ow ow ow". Repeat. Ad nauseum. I switched to the treadmill and was slightly better. So, there was mile #2. I then went on the bike and did 15 minutes there and called it a day. Disappointing, 2 crappy ass runs in a row. I was worried about my long run.
Saturday morning came. I had to get up bright and early to do my 10. On a chance, I switched back to my already broken in shoes, and went to the gym. (It was really cold and windy. And I'm a wuss.) I was a bit worried, but after about 3 miles, I really settled in and felt great. The last mile I 'ramped it up' (for me) and ran faster, too. Felt great, had plenty to give.
So, I'm hoping the pain is just from the shoes not being broken in yet. Here's hoping... I'd hate to have bought shoes I can't run in at all.
Today is supposed to be a hill run... The forecast is for 21 degrees, so I might be able to do it. If I get out of work at a reasonable time, I'm off to run to a hill. Plus, tomorrow doesn't look much better for a temperature increase, so I think this is it. Sigh. I'm going to try to remember to strap my phone on to my arm so I can take some hill pictures, just for something to put here in the blog for visual interest. You know you want it.
Keep on rockin'... Depending how today goes, maybe I'll finish up the big post..

Blog maintenance
I supposedly redirected my blogger feed to my feedburner feed, so I can get statistics. If you have any problems, please let me know.
I suspect the statistics will say something like "2 readers". :)
