Favicons Downloader - 0.30

In case anyone cares, I created a new version of my Firefox plugin - Favicons Downloader. (Info on the old version is here.)

You can find it in the Experimental Sandbox or at SourceForge.

New exciting features are:
- Background downloading support
- Updates bookmark icons in the 'Bookmarks Toolbar', as well as the standard bookmarks menu

There's a few bug fixes and minor items.

It's a 'Use at your own risk' sort of piece of software.. :) Seems to work OK for me and for others, but it is just a side project.

I actually nominated it for public usage, but I was turned down because no external website had reviewed it. I guess I understand that, but it stinks. Chuckle.

Alright.. I'm out.

Bathroom is finally done

Yeah, so a long time ago, I started a bathroom redo. Nothing major, just a facelift.

This past weekend, I finally finished. Finally.

As you can see, the walls are nice and green. We went for something bold, just because we can.

The last thing I did was put in a new sink & drain. Of course, that's always a fun time. Plumbing. Such fun. As one would expect, the shutoff valves didn't quite work completely. And, I started the project about 45 minutes before we were to leave the house.

(Why make it easy?)

I wound up getting it half done, threw a new supply line on from the shutoff valve up to the faucet, and we went out.

Yeah, well.. The line wasn't on tight. Came home 7 hours later to find a nice pool of water on the floor. Oops. Shouldn't do these things in a rush.

Interesting story about that night. My brother and law and I went out to this little bar we'd never been to before. Nice little place, friendly bartender. While there, we made friends with some guy who said "money is no object" half a dozen times. No joke. And he put his money where his mouth was. He wound up buying us a bunch of drinks. We walked out of the bar having had 6 beers or so with only a $10 tab. Not bad.

As one could extrapolate, since I started the night there, the boozing continued for a few hours.

So, yes. I came home that night, having a good number under my belt, to find the aforementioned pool of water.

Maybe that actually helped, but I don't remember minding it too much. Did the cleanup, did the tightening and fixing and some more hooking up, and went to bed.

Lo and behold, Sunday morning, no water. Awesome.

But yeah, bathroom is done. New light, mirror, faucet, paint, caulk, towel bars, etc etc.

Only thing I cheated on was that one of the toilet bolts was rusted up, and I couldn't tighten the nut up. I really really didn't feel like cutting the bolt, removing the toilet, doing the new wax ring, etc. etc, so I just put a little shim in under the washer and called it a day. I did tighten the other side, if that counts for anything..

Bittersweet

So, I had to finish up yesterday's post a bit prematurely. Work called, that's what I had to do. You know how it goes.

Anybody watch the final game in Yankee stadium? The pregame ceremonies were incredible.. watching all of the Yankee greats go out on the field. I was really glad to see Bernie Williams was there, too.

It's too bad we won't be in the playoffs this year, but maybe the ownership will realize there are some issues with the team. Maybe they'll work on building a real team, rather than just putting together a bunch of old high-priced superstars.

The Jets got owned last night, unfortunately. I'm hoping with the fairly easy schedule they have over the next few weeks that the team will be able to gel.

I went out for a run, aiming to do 3 miles. My calves felt somewhat tight, as they have lately, but better than I expected. I did do some self massage on them the night before, and that seems to have helped. My route slowly lengthened, as I took a couple of extra side streets. Come mile 2.8, I felt really good all of a sudden. The run wound up being 3.83 miles.

Even though my legs aren't right after having missed a bunch of runs, I am increasing the number of times I run per week. That was one of my goals this year, which I was semi-successful at. Since I've gotten the go-ahead from the doctor to run, I've been going out 5 times every 7 days. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep that up.

Last night, I did caulk and clean the floor of the bathroom I'm redoing. The vinyl flooring near the tub is pretty torn up, so I may put a rubber/caulk hybrid strip down just to make it look nice and neat and straight. The good news was that I didn't get caulk all over (the walls, the floor, or myself). I'm getting better at doing this. Hehe

Tonight is Harpoon night, so no running (and probably nothing productive). I have a few folks to raise a pint to, and I'm going with a good group of guys to raise the pints with.

Firefox Favicons Downloader

I finally got around to cleaning up and officially releasing a little project of mine. It's nothing too exciting, but it's a small contribution to the community.

This is a Firefox add-on which churns through your bookmarks, and goes and fetches the icons for the various bookmarks which are missing icons.

The addon can be found at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/favicodl/
.

I have made a 'sandbox' entry over at addons.mozilla.org for this plugin. After it floats around a while, I'll nominate it for a review for public release on the addons site.

One may ask, 'why?'.

I use an extension called Foxylicious, which goes and downloads your bookmarks from del.icio.us. When this happens, the bookmarks all have the default bookmark icon.

After downloading, you can run this extension, and presto! Your icons are all there.

Comments are welcome, of course.

Of course, this is the initial public offering. I've used it myself, but that's the extent of the testing. It should work on Firefox versions 2.0.0.x and 3.0.x. Use at your own risk. :)
